We love Mallory Sauer, Pure Barre instructor and the gorgeous style blogger behind www.sweetandsauer.com and IG @mallorysauer. We were so excited when we got the chance to have a little chat with Mallory about her effortlessly chic style and the latest trends for summer.

How would you describe your sense of style? How did you become a style blogger?

I would describe my style as simple with a little bit of edge. I love simple pieces that are easy to throw on, but still look put together. I also love mixing slightly unexpected pieces for a unique look. As far as blogging, I actually had a blog in college but never kept up with it. It was always something I wanted to pick back up and finally just went for it. It’s a fun way for me to express myself and share things I love to wear.

You must have an impressive closet. How do you update your wardrobe each season?

Thank you! I’m actually really bad at updating, I feel like I’m kind of a hoarder. I’m so bad at getting rid of old stuff (insert hands covering face emoji here). Each season I look at my clothes and think “What am I missing? What do I keep reaching for that I don’t have? What trends am I loving that are missing in my wardrobe?” Once I put a list together I start scouring the internet and stores for pieces that fill these holes. I like to be a little creative with where I shop so I don’t end up matching everyone else.

What trends are you looking forward to rocking for spring and summer (both in and out of the studio)?

Great question! I am LOVING the cold shoulder/off the shoulder trend right now. I think it’s so fun for spring and summer. Rompers are always a favorite of mine, but something I’ve been gravitating toward more and more lately. I used to be scared of them but now I’m obsessed. There are a ton of shoe trends I’m loving as well. I love the lace up heeled sandals, gladiators and fringe. As for the studio, I am such a sucker for anything with an open back. Give me a fun strappy bra and a loose tank and I’m set. I love muscle tees and graphic tanks as well! Edgy prints are also something I’m super excited about. I love that you can be extra bold in the studio – it’s the best place to really express yourself.

You are a barre instructor. What is it about the barre workout that you love? Are there any common barre misconceptions you’d like to clear up?

Oh man I love barre. I’ve been doing it for about 5 years now and it still hasn’t gotten old. I love that each class is different and I love that it delivers results. I’ve seen so many of my clients dedicate themselves to coming to barre regularly, and their results are absolutely amazing. My mom lost 32 pounds when she first started. It’s those successes that really make me believe in it. Common misconceptions – oh gosh. First, it’s not a bar and you can’t drink there haha. You definitely don’t need to be a dancer to be able to do barre. You don’t need to be flexible either, that’s something that comes with time. I always tell clients to give barre at least 3 tries before they write it off. It’s such a different workout and can be very intimidating at first.

Who is your favorite style icon?

I love Olivia Palermo. She always looks so polished and put together. She also perfects that effortless vibe. I’ve always loved her style.
