Every once in a while, I need some serious motivation to remember that my goals are attainable. After losing 12 pounds in just a few weeks, I thought I was well on my way to losing my goal of 25. But things slowed, and as I gained muscle, although I look better every day, the number on the scale keeps staying the same. Instagram has become an amazing source for me to turn to when I need a little #fitspo. When searching for motivation though, models with perfectly toned abs who have been doing professional shoots all day to get the most flattering image just isn’t helpful. Seeing real women, doing real workout, and taking real, unedited pictures, reminds me that with hard work my goal is realistic and attainable.

These are the some of the women who motivate me to work harder. They show that fitness is a lifestyle. There are highs and lows, and showing the lows is just as important as showing the highs. You don’t wake up one morning and suddenly have abs like Usher. You have to work for it, and that’s not always pretty.

For so long I looked at pictures of models and saw the perfection behind them, but in reality that’s not all true. There is so much more behind those “perfect pictures” and “perfect” bodies, and I think it is important to show that behind the scenes. “I love Pure Barre and swear it transforms bodies. I also love the cute clothes we get to wear to the barre! But my body still craves sweaty weighted workouts and trail runs where my ankles get covered in dirt and my hair sticks to the back of my neck. Fitting home workouts in between work calls, I’m lucky to find matching socks; and who has time for a shirt? My solo workouts aren’t cute, and if I posted pics to social media I would, for starters, need all the filters, and then you’d unfollow me, because that’s just annoying… But I love the way hard runs and heavy weights make my heart pump and legs burn. My hands have had calluses, but that’s okay, because I love my strong body. All for the cute pair of studio leggings, but I wouldn’t trade “cute” for “strong” strong any day.”

“The simple truth is that losing fat is the hardest thing ever.  From an evolutionary standpoint, your body simply doesn’t want to let that fat go!  After doing BBG, I’ve learned to let go of the lure of my “perfect body” because I’ve been thin before, and I’ve been heavy, but I was never happy.  Being strong is the only thing that’s ever filled me up, and made me consistently feel good.  I believe that starting at a place of self-love, with a mindset of self-experimentation to find what works for your body, is the best way to achieve your goals.”

“I found a deep passion for health and fitness while beginning my journey to overcome my negative self-image and postpartum depression. It feels great to connect with so many women by being very open with my journey, whether it’s good or bad. Initially, I wasn’t so sure if I should make a public Instagram account to share my journey with the world because I felt I didn’t progress as fast as other women. Quickly, I learned that it is so important for other women to see that progress takes time and the journey is not always pretty because there will be bumps in the road and unexpected detours along the way. Any pictures that I post on social media is completely unedited and unfiltered. I also don’t pose a certain way either to accentuate a perfect body. Why? Because my body is not perfect. It is flawed but that’s my body and it tells a story.
