Kayla is a sadist. The most beautiful, wonderful, life-changing sadist in all of Australia. I have been looking to make a change for a while. In the last year, between working a desk job 80 hours a week and having some major lifestyle changes, I gained 13 pounds… on top of the 15 pounds I’d gained through college and grad school. I know I exercise and I eat mostly well, but the way I’ve been handling my body just hasn’t been working. I recently switched jobs and moved from Washington, DC to rural New Hampshire, and with these major changes I decided to add one more: Sweat with Kayla.
For the last few months since formally making the decision to move to New Hampshire, among everything else going through my head, I have been absolutely freaking out about going without my favorite things: Chipotle, Soul Cycle, and Pure Barre. I don’t know if you know a lot about Northern New England, but these things just cannot be found up here. There is the odd yoga class, but rather than the CorePower-style “I’m going to kick your butt into shape” yoga, it is more the “become one with the earth and yourself” yoga. Not my scene.
Just as I was getting ready to make my move, I read a recent Q&A on SimplyWORKOUT with Kallie, (@kal_fitlife), who swears by BBG. To quote that article, “BBG is a popular fitness and lifestyle guide created by trainer Kayla Itsines, centered-around a week-by-week food and workout plan proven to get incredible results (the testimonials and photos don’t lie).”
I found Kallie’s candid perspective on her BBG experience to be inspiring. A week after reading her interview, I downloaded the app, and am so happy I did! I am only on week two, so a far cry from the amazing transformation that Kallie has made, but I am extremely hopeful given the amount of sweat dripping from my brow each day when I do Kayla’s workouts!
Kayla’s fitness regime is pretty simple: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday you do one of the 28-minute circuit training programs that Kayla provides on her app, Sweat with Kayla. Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday you do cardio for about 40 minutes. Sundays you rest. Kayla also provides a diet plan and grocery list filled with healthy and yummy recipes to aid you in your fitness transformation. When looking at the overview of her workouts, they seem totally easy and attainable, but by the 3rd of 4 circuits, I feel like I haven’t exercised since high school!
I’m not going to sugar-coat it: I don’t feel good about myself right now. Moving up to New England has definitely been a wake-up call that I can and must do better for myself. Even though I felt like I was doing all I could to be fit and healthy in DC, I wasn’t. Kayla is my guide. I am going to follow her to my weight loss and chiseled-ab goals. Even though at times I hate her and her beautiful braids, I feel confident by reading testimonials like Kallie’s that this plan will work. Here’s to you, Kayla! Let’s get me back into shape!
