We excitedly got a moment with Cara. You can find Cara on instagram sharing her success with BBG. See how she evolved since her commitment to her health journey that began just a year ago. Thanks for meeting with us!
One year into BBG and you’ve had a tremendous transformation! Did you have any struggles getting started and what were your biggest hurdles in your journey?
I started following Kayla Itsines on Instagram sometime during the winter of 2014. I kept seeing all the amazing transformation photos of the girls doing her guides, so finally in February I downloaded her free week workout trial. I did one workout, and I was just like “DONE. I’m buying the BBG 1.0 guide and I’m completing the 12 weeks. This is it. If other girls can do it, I can do it, too.”
My biggest hurdles were
1) Changing my eating habits. Eating clean and healthy is such a challenge at first because your body still craves all the bad foods you’re used to eating – pizza, burgers, ice cream, etc. It definitely took me a few weeks to get used to – but now I LOVE eating healthy and rarely crave the bad stuff! When I do, I let myself have a “cheat” meal, which is usually Mexican food or pizza for me – and then I move on and go back to my healthy ways!
2) Getting up early for workouts! I promised myself I would make sure to get all 6 workouts in every week BBG resistance sessions and 3 LISS sessions) which meant I had to plan around my busy schedule at times. I am not a morning person AT ALL, so getting myself up at 6 am was such a challenge at first! I’ve realized getting out of bed and getting my workout clothes on is the hardest part,(3 so now I just jump out of bed and do it before I can change my mind!
Have you noticed internal health benefits from choosing this healthy path?
I have so much more energy than I used to. I can also tell how good I feel when I’m eating healthy, and how lousy I feel when I am not. It’s very eye-opening to realize how great your body is designed to feel!
What would you say to the girls who look at your Instagram profile and doubt they can achieve similar results?
If I can do it- YOU CAN DO IT. I never thought I would have abs, I just accepted it wasn’t possible for me – and I’ve always been into fitness. However, it’s not that I couldn’t tone up and achieve the results I wanted – it’s that I wasn’t doing it right. I would run for miles, go to random Barre classes, lift weights etc. The reason this program is amazing is because everything is laid out for you and tells you exactly what you need to do – and if you follow the program – you will see amazing results.
What’s your ultimate ‘sinful’ but healthy treat?
I love banana with Justin’s Hazelnut butter! It tastes like dark chocolate and is soooo good! Anytime I have a sweet tooth – that’s my go-to. I’ll never get tired of it.
There’s been some debate on if dressing well for the gym boosts performance by making you feel good and it reflecting in your workout. What do you have to say about this?
I totally believe that a new workout outfit or new cute gym gear is extremely motivating!! I like to set goals for myself and then get myself a new outfit or two when I reach my goal. It’s so much more fun being at the gym and working out when you look cute doing it. 🙂
What do you want to achieve this year?
This year my biggest fitness goal is to become a NASM certified personal trainer! I can’t wait to see where that takes me!
