As fellow So Cal fitness girls and bloggers, we immediately were drawn to Lauryn Evarts of The Skinny Confidential. With a published book and successful blog under her belt, (in fact her site was named the top health/fitness blog in the world by BlogLovin recently), Lauryn is at the helm of an impressive brand (159k Instagram followers, 38k Twitter followers) that is growing stronger by the day. We love her tongue-in-cheek, tell-it-how-it-is style that gives us a glimpse of her no nonsense sense of humor. With gorgeous photos that provide endless style inspiration, well-edited videos (think hands-on make-up & beauty tips) and easy, healthy recipes, the Skinny Confidential is a must-check-out pitstop for all things fitness, beauty and style.

How’d the Skinny Confidential come to be?

I was inspired to start The Skinny Confidential at San Diego State University. There were literally no healthy food options on campus. I became real good at modifying meals, figuring out how to eat healthy, and working out on campus without breaking the bank. I started to see there was a huge niche for helping other women. There were 20k girls on campus!

Fast forward to now, and TSC has grown into a lifestyle blog, book, & my full time career. Recently I created The Skinny Confidential Bombshell Body Guide which has all my health & fitness tips and tricks. We’re working on a 90 day meal plan now too!

I get my inspiration literally everywhere. Sometimes it’s from things I read, see, people I meet, friends, even TV shows. If you keep an open mind and open eyes, you’ll find inspiration in almost anything. Also, my readers inspire me daily!


What is one thing you think every woman should own?

Accessory: an amazing oversized black bag. I’m obsessed with my huge-ass Celine bag- it has my life in it! Also, love this vegan leather one.

Makeup: definitely eyelash primer! My favorite is this brand. It primes the lashes before mascara application. You can see I how I apply it here.

Beauty item: I’m having a full on love affair with The Beauty Blender. It really is the BEST when it comes to beauty. Plus it’s pink, cute, and squishy.

Clothing: definitely a rocking pair of black jeans ( that are flattering! ), huge sunglasses, & white oxfords. My obsession with white shoes runs deep.

Any beauty tips for women on-the-go?

I seriously never wash my hair, even after working out. I use dry shampoo. It saves me a ton of time not having to dry my hair after every shower. Also, The Sleep Bun a GAME CHANGER for women on the go.

What To Eat: Before and After

For makeup, always start with a primer & moisturizer to achieve that dewy look everyone is going for. Add some tinted SPF moisturizer on top and you’re golden.

A good black legging can go from the gym to the office any day. These are my favorite leggings on the planet.

What are your favorite cocktails for summer?

Ohhh that’s a hard one. I love a good cocktail. Definitely sticking with cocktails on the refreshing side during this hot-ass summer. I’m currently dying over this Mint Kombucha Cocktail & this Skinny Michelada.

You used to teach Barre and Pilates. What do you like about those workouts specifically?

Barre is INTENSE. Let me tell ya, when I first started, I would shake like a freaking leaf in every class. I love it because it targets the teeny tiny muscles in your body. You’re literally working every little nook and cranny. Plus it’s fun. I taught barre for 3 years & it was SUCH an awesome experience.

Pilates is all about increasing length and strength. You get those long, lean muscles from Pilates. Plus, there’s a huge focus on abs and learning proper form to maintain a healthy back, which is so important when you work on a computer as much as I do. I recommend Pilates to everyone on the planet.

Being a business woman, fitness instructor, friend, daughter, person, how do you find balance? Any mantras that keep you inspired and going?

This one’s a biggie: I surround myself with positive affirmations. I constantly remind myself of what I’m working towards, and to keep going!

Sometimes it’s hard to juggle a career, social life, taking care of the house, dogs, laundry, writing a book, the list goes on and on. I’m definitely more of a go, go, go type of person. I have to remind myself to take a breath, that it’s okay to say no sometimes and take it easy, and always strive for balance in EVERYTHING.
