This week I had the pleasure of taking a friend who literally never wears makeup shopping at Sephora for the first time. Not wanting to overwhelm and just intending to teach her the basics, I helped her buy the four items I can’t live without. I tend to try different makeup brands, different styles, and play with different looks, but on a regular day I want to make sure that my skin is even and protected, my eyebrows are shaped and filled in, and my lashes are long and voluminous. I can get this effect with just four items:
Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 ($45)
This is my absolute daily must. The benefits of this product are three-fold; I make sure to moisturize every morning and every night in order to keep my skin healthy. This product acts as my daily moisturizer. The tint in the product evens out my skin tone enough to let me freckles show but hides any redness. Lastly, the SPF protects my skin from harmful UV rays.
Make Up For Ever Pro Finish Multi-Use Powder ($36)
While the Nars tinted moisturizer evens out my skin tone, sometimes I need a little bit of extra coverage. The Make Up For Ever multi-use powder goes on light, giving me full coverage without making me feel like I have make up caked on my face.
Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara ($23)
I have tried dozens of different mascaras looking for the most effective product that gives me extra volume. This mascara works like no other. It almost looks like I have false lashes! (In a good way!)
Benefit Cosmetics Goof Proof Brow Pencil ($24).
My eyebrows are spotty and totally uneven. If I do nothing else after my tinted moisturizer, I at least throw on a bit of eyebrow filler. The shape of this pencil makes filling in and shaping my eyebrows easy.
Bonus! While I helped my friend get the basics, I picked up a new product for myself! The Make Up For Ever Kohl Pencil ($18), in white! If I’m going for a little something extra, before putting on any other eye makeup, I closely line my eyes with this white pencil. After using mascara and maybe some other black eyeliner, the white really makes my eyes pop and my definition is even more great.
I asked a few of my friends what products they would buy if they were going into Sephora to buy their absolute must-haves. Here’s what they said.
Lillie
Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara ($21)
Nars Audacious Lipstick in Rita ($34). “This is simply the best red lipstick you’ll ever buy.”
Blistex Medicated Lip Ointment ($2)
Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer ($27.50 for 4.2 oz).
Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15 in Rosé ($24). “This is so perfect for everyday use.”
Arianna
Bite Lipstick in Radish ($26). “They have really cool colors and Radish is perfect for both every day wear and for going out!”
Laura Mercier Eye Brown Pencil ($24)
Milk Makeup Highlighter ($24). “To give myself a little glow.”
Lisa
Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Foundation SPF 15 ($39)
Clinique Crayola Chubby Stick Intense Moisturizing Lip Color Balm ($17). “Because those are the only one’s I know how to put on.”
Anastasia Brow Wiz ($21). “I have naturally furry eyebrows but they need a little bit of help. Last time I wore my eyebrow pencil out someone told me I looked just like Cara Delevingne – the highest compliment you can get on your brows.”
This is amazing – thanks for sharing! I love that this is not complicated and focuses on enhancing natural beauty.
