We had the chance to steal some time with the gorgeous and ever so stylish blogger and instagrammer, Jessica Edmunds, aka theJpetite. This pint-sized beauty – hence the “petite” in her handle – is a self-proclaimed Barre Addict and is a fashion inspiration both in and outside of the studio. We love peeping her feed to check out her latest styled outfits to get some serious inspiration. We had the opportunity to catch some time with Jessica recently to ask her about her style picks for Summer and more.

We love your instagram feed and blog! What inspired you to start it all?

After graduating college I moved from Utah to Arizona for my husband to attend dental school three years ago. I started working at Nordstrom for a year, and my co workers kept saying that I needed to start a fashion blog. After all the encouragement I decided that I would start a blog to share my two passions in life; style and fitness. Starting a blog was also a great project to keep me busy when my husband would be studying all day and all night.

You are a Pure Barre instructor.  What about it makes Barre your go-to workout?

I took my first class the day I went to training to be a pure barre teacher 4 years ago. Since I was apart of teaching staff that opened the first studio in Utah I had never taken a barre class in my life. During my first class I absolutely loved the crazy burn I got. My mind was blown away that I can get my thighs to shake like Elvis from doing small isometric movements. I’ve always been a super active person from dance, rock climbing, and running but never have I been consistently sore from something other than pure barre. During the first month of opening the studio I couldn’t believe the changes I was seeing in my body from taking class! The change I saw right away was in my upper body, and the muscle definition in my seat ( PB lingo for hot booty 😉 ).

I was born with a disc missing in my back which has resulted in lower back pain during certain exercises. What I LOVE about PB is that it’s low impact, and I have never gotten back pain or injuries from class. When our new cardio class platform came out I was kind of nervous how I would do with the bigger movements. To my surprise the big range of motion was still low impact, and I sweated like there’s no tomorrow!

Whether I take pure barre or platform I always have so much fun, and leave class feeling amazing!

We always joke about the “love/hate” relationship that students have with their barre instructors.  What are the 3 exercises that evoke the most groans and eye rolls when you dole them out in class?

Oh man whenever they walk into the studio, and see that I got the Velcro tubes strapped on the barre for them. “Jess loves her Velcro….”

I totally do 😉 te he

Thighs are the most challenging part of class so when you start off with knee dancing you see people take their time to kneel on the floor.

When it comes to seat anytime you whip out lunge it gets some groans. I personally am always excited for lunge because it’s so challenging, and the full body burn is so good!

We love that you don’t shy away from color and mixing prints.  What is the color palette or trends that you’re eyeing for summer?

Summer is always bright colors for me!!! The brighter the better! I’m a huge fan of neon pink and yellow! If I’m feeling tame I always default to white. Summer white is my fav because you can add pops of color to make the outfit eye catching.  One of my favorite trends is the cold shoulder or off the shoulder tops and dresses. While its sometimes annoying that you can’t lift your arms high the trend is so sexy and flattering.

Being that many of us have to fit workouts into busy schedules, do you have any tips for easily taking workout looks from the studio to the street?

This is something that I deal on a daily basis. Since I work as a teacher and as a blogger sometimes I have to run from teaching to a meeting. Since I have long hair I only wash it once a week, and have to make my hair last the whole 7 days. To prevent your hair from getting gross on the ends I put my hair in a bun on top of my head. One thing I do is bring a blow dryer with me. When I’m done working out I quickly blow out my roots. By blow drying your hair when its damp will help it prevent from getting greasy too fast.

Black leggings are a must! When running errands after barre I’ll throw on an oversized shirt with booties. Add a front shirt tuck in the front, and then I’m ready to hit Scottsdale. In the winter I like to add a cute beanie, and leather jacket. Layering is key to elevate your barre attire for the perfect comfy chic street look.
